Less Is More for Voigt

I hate to keep going on about Deborah Voigt's weight loss, but… Wait, no I don't.

Voigt's first-ever Marschallin, in January. Stunning, apparently.

There had been lots of talk in opera circles about Voigt's enormous weight loss—that there was about half as much of Debbie as there used to be; that she would look phenomenal…

Well, as soon as the curtain opened, it was clear that the rumors were not exaggerated: Voigt, voluptuously stretched out on satin sheets in front of the Marschallin's bed, wearing a cream-colored negligée whose straps would casually slip from her shoulders every now and then, has indeed transformed herself into a strikingly beautiful woman.

Believe us, the pictures don't do her justice - Deborah Voigt as the Marschallin, with Kurt Rydl as Baron Ochs, in 'Der Rosenkavalier' at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. What's more—much more—Voigt's first-ever Marschallin was one of those rare, blissful (and usually unexpected) occasions where everyone present felt they had witnessed a historic night.

i think she looks scary not svelt...and i think she looked more beautiful before she lost the 1,000 pound...
ya know...i really hope she does not have to go through the , "oh i wish i never got my stomach stapled...because going through this reversal surgery is gonna be a pain in the ass!!!!"...it happens...look at most of the celebs who have had it done--they've all had to get it reversed...and then look at the many that die from it, maybe not during the initial surgery, but 6 months later when an infection kicks in...i've seen it, and i would hate to see that someone's vanity has caused their own death...

She looks freakishly thin for her...she was better plump...I'm sure she would agree that she liked it better when she could have her cake and eat it too!

Freakishly thin? WTF? She's still fat, she's just not enormous anymore. She doesn't look that much better to me, but I'm sure her knees and her heart are thanking her right now.

her face looks to thin...it's sayin , "please feed me pleasseeeee!!!!"
anyway, yes her heart will be better off, but the voice isn't as good as it was. i was able to see her in london last august at the bbc prom , then tannhauser this past fall, and then at the nyc gay men's chorus christmas concert...and let me tell you she wasn't great...i was waiting for that big powerful voice i heard at carnegie hall last april during her recital...and well, i didn't get it...

resp. to Joe:

I've recently lost a lot of weight and find that breath support is a LOT more difficult than it used to be. Used to be, I could just take a breath and the 600 pounds of flab would take care of the support - no effort on my part. After losing about 40-50 pounds I noticed that I just didn't have the quality of sound and control I was used to... finally realized that the gut wasn't doing the work for me any more, and I would have to actually make an effort. The sound came back, but it's much more work than it used to be, & I'm still figuring out how to consistently get that combination of loud + unrestricted + in control that used to be automatic.
Give her some time. That voice we love is her sound, and I'm sure she wants it back. She'll figure it out.
